D the Artist; H the Athlete

D attended an art camp at the art museum this week. He really enjoyed it! On the last day he exhibited his work along with his fellow campers for parents and museum staff.



During the camp, he visited the galleries, learned about the processes of painting, printmaking, and sculpture. He also learned about portraits and landscapes. He fell in love with his teacher!




Here is some of his work. The large poster includes drawings he made of himself and the other campers in the galleries. Instead of just drawing the works of art he actually drew his group standing and looking at the works of art!


As part of a portrait exercise he was asked to make portraits of his favorite pet. He took a picture of Grandma's golden retriever, Lucy, for the portrait exercise:





His group also looked at Georgia O'Keefe paintings. They mimicked her process by looking at real flowers with magnifying glasses and making drawings and paintings. Dennis created this drawing and painting by looking at real flowers under a magnifying glass. He thought the flower's stigma/stamen looked like a Christian cross. So, he painted this cross shape on his flower. He had told me that he painted, "crosses on flowers" that day.



We are so proud of D and his art experience!
