Our Wyoming Retreat - The Ranch

We fell in love with the ranch both for its aesthetics and history. The main house was built in the 1890's by an artist from New York City. This artist traveled to Wyoming and fell in love with the landscape and hunting. The main house (below) has been renovated but its appearance looks the same as in the 1890's.



The original fireplace in the main room and an original fireplace crafted in granite. The original artist owner used granite from his property to built this incredible fireplace.


The main house included a second floor loft which served as a studio for the original owner.



Additional cabins were built on the immediate property. We stayed in the cabin on the left.



A fabulous fire pit sat in front of the main cabin. It was a wonderful place to view the full moon.

The artist's palette was a theme throughout the ranch decor. The ranch also uses the shape of a palette as their brand. Of course, I loved it. I really enjoyed reading the original owner's autobiography during our visit.





In contrast to this serene setting was the reality of the threat from bears around us in Wyoming. We were required to wear "bear spray" which is like heavy pepper spray. While I never saw a real bear, P's group saw a black bear while horseback riding. Notice a headline in the local paper:



We took the bear threat seriously. There were plenty of pictures of bears on the property to remind visitors to wear their bear spray.
