Art Camps!

I'm so happy to see the boys enjoying summer camps at the art museum.  It is very special for me to see them grow in their creativity and in their interests in the arts.  Dad can also be involved since the art museum is across the street from his office.

D just finished his third year attending an art camp with the same instructors and many of the same campers including a friend from school.  He loves it. 

Here he is presenting his exhibition to his camp:

D showed us his favorite works in the galleries and then his art inspired by some of them.  He really likes these stained-glass windows and this portrait of a woman by Manet.

He learned songs inspired by these paintings at the art museum.  We have video of him singing his songs.  Ask us to see them when you come visit!

He loved this Japanese scroll and the scroll he made.  His Japanese scroll includes his drawing of an elevator.  It is a Fujitec elevator, of course!

D created a collage inspired by this collage by Romare Bearden.

H attended two summer art camps!  He also loved walking us around the museum and showing us his favorite works of art and his art inspired by them.

Here he is with sculptures from Southeast Asia and India. He thought the stories of Vishnu and Ganesha were pretty amazing.  Ganesa being part elephant is quite fascinating.  Vishnu also changes into various forms and often acts as a "superhero".

This sculptural pair from Malaysia show fantasy creatures created by mixing parts from different animals.  Henry made a "mixed-up shark giraffe".  He was really proud.

He was very excited to show us this Picasso still life and the version he created:

His camps also concluded with a short exhibition.  He was so funny around the other children.  He was regularly pointing out that he was the "oldest, tallest, and smartest."
